Hi all,
First of all a big congratulations to Melinda and all involved in the
Netherlands on gaining their first two Fairtrade Towns of Groningen
and Goes.
Finally we have just finished Fairtrade Fortnight in the UK and I have
two good news stories to share with you:
1.You may have already heard that Cadbury’s in the UK are about to
switch their Cadbury’s Dairy Milk bar (the biggest selling chocolate
bar in the country) to Fairtrade by the end of Summer 2009. This is
wonderful news that is set to triple the sale of Fairtrade cocoa in
Ghana in the first year alone. Follow this link for more information:

2.Our banana record was a tremendous success. Figures are still
coming in but we already know that more than 400,000 people ate
Fairtrade bananas during the 24 hour period.

The highlight for me was when the schools in Garstang, the world’s
first Fairtrade Town joined via a video link with a school in Media,
the first Fairtrade Town in the USA and by phone with school children
in New Koforidua in Ghana to eat bananas. See
www.garstangfairtrade.org.uk
. In total 2,281 people from the three communities took part in this
first joint event by what we are now calling the Fair Trade Triangle.
Best wishes,
