Hi everyone,

There are now over 500 Fairtrade Towns worldwide!
Unfortunately the quarterly updates do not enable me to calculate
which place was the 500th!

I have put up a list giving the total number of Fairtrade Towns for
each country onto the Discussion Group pages.

You can view the page "International Fairtrade Towns List – July 2008"
at:

Click on http://groups.google.com/group/international-fairtrade-towns/web/international-fairtrade-towns-list--july-2008?hl=en
- or copy & paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't
work.

Hello Bruce,

I was just checking some things out at the discussion group right now. I was wondering about your last sentence in your first message about an international fairtrade towns website. Is there a plan from the secretariats to support such a website and will there certainly be one, or are you just alluding on a wish of many people and waiting that someone takes care of it in fact? :-)
I hope it is the first thing that came up in my mind! It would be great if some people would lead this!
Thank you anyway for all your work on this!
Best regards,

Nathalie

Hi Nathalie,

The Fairtrade Foundation UK are working in partnership with Max
Havelaar Belgium and Max Havelaar France on an EU funded Fairtrade
Towns project.
The aim of the project is to help the spread of Fairtrade Towns in
Europe and beyond, culminating in an international Fairtrade Towns
website.
So I'm please to say that this is something that we are working on, in
fact I was working on that very subject when you sent your message.

Best wishes,
Bruce

Hi everyone,

I have just updated the International Fairtrade Towns List with the
information that I have so that it now states there are 520 Fairtrade
Towns worldwide.
If any of the country Fairtrade Town Coordinators see any mistakes
that need updating please do so.

I made a new change in the amout of Fairtrade Towns in Flanders: this
weekend we realized the 50th Fairtrade Town!
As we had two towns at the same moment becoming FTT, we decided to
call Duffel and Middelkerke both the 50th FTT.

The official ceremony was followed by a concert of The Foxes, a band
who knows the FTT movement very well, isn't it people from the UK?

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that I have updated the international Fairtrade
Towns list to show a total of 551 Fairtrade Towns in 15 countries.
The Netherlands, Germany and Brazil have also started Fairtrade Town
initiatives but have not yet declared their first Fairtrade Town.
Unless somebody out there knows differently?

Thanks Bruce for this helpful list.

I mentioned this at the Fairtrade Towns conference: I set up a list of
FT Towns on Wikipedia at the following address:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fairtrade_settlements

I thought a user-generated list might make it easier to compile
everything... feel free to update it as well!

I just updatet the list. We have got 12 Fairtrade-municipalities in
Norway and we changed the name of the project from "Fairtrade-by" to
"Fairtrade-kommune"

Congratulations Andreas. I enjoyed a great holiday in Norway the year
before last and didn't find much Fairtrade - so it's good to know that now
progress is being made.

Thank you Andreas,
That brings us close to 600 Fairtrade Towns worldwide.
I will try and send out the latest update today.

Will you be going to the international Conference in Lyon in February?
I really hope that you will be able to make it.
It would be great if my good friend Stale from Sauda was able to make it also.
You both have so much to contribute.

Dear all,

A very good New Year and may a lot of Fair trade wishes come out in 2009!
I think it's always nice and enthuisiasming to hear about other countries' progress in fair trade.
A great publication to know more about fair trade in Europe and since this time also from overseas, is the Fact and Figures Report by Jean-Marie Krier.
So you can see fair trade has even taken off in Iceland by now!
You can find it at: http://www.eftafairtrade.org/ under publications, facts & figures, version 2007.
Unfortunately, there were more interested people than places for people from Belgium, so I will skip this turn!
Kind regards,
Nathalie

I'd love to Andreas! - we loved your mountains and lakes. But we're
thinking of Denmark this year - better for cycling! Hopefully we'll find
some Fairtrade products there.

good wishes,

As I understand, the FTT website is not yet ready. Until it is or even
beyond I can volunteer to update the wiki page. For this to work, I
would need to be given a list of people to contact on a regular base
in each country with FTT. I'd contact them once a month or so and
bring any new FTT up on the wiki. Just a thought.

Thanks for that kind offer Zbigniew,
This is quite a difficult task and would need the consent/cooperation/tome and effort of all the Coordinators.

I presently ask for an update on the numbers of Fairtrade Towns in each country for every quarter.
In fact I am in the process of doing that now and will update the list on this Discussion Group when I have gathered all the information.
Most countries do have their own websites which are again listed on the pages of this Group.
The websites are frequently updated but things are moving so fast that everyone finds it difficult to do so.
At this moment I have 617 worldwide and still counting.

This is certainly something that can and I'm sure will be discussed at the conference.
I do hope that you can make it.

Right - no problem. If you ever need a helping hand, do not hesitate
to contact me. I love the idea, support it and want to help as much as
possible. Apart from my many faults (which my wife knows most
about :), I do have strenghts such as that I can be depended upon and
not easily giving up.

Hi all,

I have updated the international Fairtrade Towns list in the Pages
section to show a remarkable 630 Fairtrade Towns worldwide.

Congratulations to Marcio and all the people in Alfenas on becoming
the first Fair Trade Town in Brazil and the first 'Producer' Fair
Trade Town in the world.
This is an issue that will be explored further at the Fairtrade Towns
conference to be held in Lyon next month.
