I am reading
http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/press_office/press_releases_and_statements/january_2008/two_royal_honours_for_fairtrade_pioneers.aspx
and would like to congratulate Bruce on this award!

But at the same time I have two questions:

1/ According to the release, Garstang was declared as first FT town in
year 2000, but the list data says it was on 22/11/2001.

2/ The release says FT towns are in 17 countries but the list data
seems to contradict it (unless I am mistaken - which is possible).

Anyway, all the best to you Bruce - sincere congratulations from
Poland! Hopefully, one day we will join this honorable rank of FT-
friendly countries and towns.

So sorry for the delayed response to this Zbigniew and thanks for your congratulatory message.
I have answered your questions below.

1/ According to the release, Garstang was declared as first FT town in
year 2000, but the list data says it was on 22/11/2001.
The PEOPLE of Garstang first declared Garstang a Fairtrade Town at a Public meeting on Thursday 27th April 2000.
The Fairtrade Foundation then developed the five goals and officially awarded status to Garstang on 22nd November 2001.

2/ The release says FT towns are in 17 countries but the list data
seems to contradict it (unless I am mistaken  - which is possible).
This is changing all the time and I try to update the list on this site at least every quarter.
There are presently over 630 Fairtrade Towns in 15 countries.
Additionally to that France, The Netherlands and Germany hope to declare their first Fairtrade Town sometime in 2009.

I hope that helps and very much look forward to the day that Poland can be added to the list.
Perhaps I may also be able to meet with you one day?

Until then best wishes and keep up your excellent work,

Thanks a lot! That explains it! :)

I am sure we will make it one day. Today I got the news that FT
Coalition is about to be constituted which is really good news for FT
here!

> Perhaps I may also be able to meet with you one day?
I am sure we will. I'd love to!

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication!
