To friends of Fairtrade Towns everywhere,
Please accept my apologies if you have already received this and/or you are no longer involved with a Fairtrade Town campaign.
Believe it or not it is 10 years ago since the people of Garstang voted to make their town the world’s first Fairtrade Town.
At the time many people thought declaring as the world’s first Fairtrade Town was a bit presumptuous.
But with almost 800 Fairtrade Towns in 19 countries including cities such as London, Paris, Rome, Copenhagen, Brussels and San Francisco this is an international celebration NOT TO BE MISSED.
I have just returned from Japan and will never forget giving a Presentation including the ‘Garstang story’ while looking out over the Tokyo skyline.
Kumamoto is expected to become Japan’s first Fairtrade Town later this year and we have a Japanese delegation coming from the other side of the world to be at this historical international milestone event.
We are lucky to have Harriet Lamb CBE (Chief Executive of the Fairtrade Foundation) who is a magnificent and inspiring speaker and also awarded Garstang its Fairtrade Town certificate .
We also have great entertainment and live video links with coco farming community of New Koforidua in Ghana and Media the first Fair Trade Town in the USA.
I have attached a poster and flier for the event and further details including ticket sales can be found at:
I would be most grateful if you could promote this event using the attached poster and most importantly by word of mouth whenever and wherever possible.
If the tickets system seems to complex (as I think it is) then just send me a cheque* and I’ll put the tickets to one side to collect on the door.
*Cheques should be made out to the ‘Garstang Fairtrade Steering Group’ and sent to:

I hope you can make it!
Very best wishes,
Bruce Crowther
