The National Task Force on Deaf-Blind Interpreting (NTFDBI) would like to announce several new resources now available. The Annotated Bibliography on Deaf-Blind Interpreting, done in collaboration with the National Center on Deaf-Blindness (NCDB), which was last updated in 2010, is now in its third edition with approximately 45 new entries. The bibliography includes two new categories, Videos and Vlogs, and Webinars, for a total of 19 categories with cross-referenced material for ease of location. Other categories include Advocacy and Rights, Communication and Communication Methods, Culture and Community, Curricula/Educational Resources, Interpreting with Deaf-Blind People (General Information, General Information for the Deaf-Blind Consumer, the Deaf-Blind Perspective, Theatrical Settings, Trilingual Interpreting) and more. It is available both online and in downloadable formats (standard print and large print PDFs and plain text). A 2010-2014 Addendum is also available for those who have hard copy versions of the bibliography and would like to print out only the additional items. Available at http://deafblindinterpreting.org/documents/.
The NTFDBI has also worked in collaboration with the National Family Association for Deaf-Blind (NFADB) on the creation of definitions of DeafBlind Interpreter, Support Service Provider and Intervener. These definitions, along with video samples of DeafBlind interpreting and Support Service Providers, and a list of additional resources, are available on the NTFDBI website at http://deafblindinterpreting.org/definitions-2/. Each video sample is accompanied by a transcript with visual descriptions, and one of the SSP samples is also provided in Spanish.
A new accessibility feature is now available on all YouTube videos that have captioning enabled so viewers can adjust the size, font and text and background color of captions. Directions on how to adjust the captions are included under the YouTube samples at the above link in both English and Spanish.
NTFDBI DeafBlind Interpreting Guidelines, adapted from "Interpreter Guidelines" by Sharon Barrey Grassick, are also now available from the NTFDBI at http://deafblindinterpreting.org/documents/. This document provides definitions of interpreting modes, how to make contact with a DeafBlind person, information on mobility and access, assignment protocol, breaks and social situations, interpreting environmental information, consideration of individual needs, codes and adaptations for tactile interpreting, seating logistics, clothing, lighting and personal hygiene.
