That was my question, too! Where DOES this spam come from?

Hmm.....

I haven't seen any spam from interbuddies. Over the last week, I have,
on the other hand, been asked to moderate a couple of suspected spam
notes that someone tried to post to the group. In both cases I rejected
them.

Damn. You retired fogeys get all the toys.

My ex-employer - the one that paid me to go away 6 months ago - is
requesting that I come back to work, and make a trip to India to help
start up a new Plate Mill there. I suggested instead that they send one
of their own guys and use me to backfill temporarily - I don't feel like
leaving my wife and family for 6 months.

So how much should I ask for?

I don't know about double pay, but it should be at least 1.5 times your old pay...

I was offered 60k to go work in Siberia for 4 months on, 1 month off, 4 months on....free lodging and transportation...but I ultimately decided it wasn't enough pay for such a hardship post. India won't be a hardship though...you can live it up!

They're offering about 40% over my old pay, but when I consider my old
vacation package, and increases that have happened in the 6 months since
I left, it's really only about 20% over what I'd be making if I hadn't
left. Of course, that's on top of my pension, so it's all bonus. All
expenses are covered, and they have nice accommodations there, on site.
Schedule would be flexible - maybe 6 weeks there, 2 weeks back, that
sort of thing.

Better yet, it sounds like they might go for the backfilling idea, in
which case I can sleep in my own bed. I might still wind up over there
for a month or two here or there. One of my co-workers would go every
second stint, so it would probably be 6 weeks there, 6 weeks here,
working the whole time, for 6 months or so.

Or maybe nothing will come of it at all. We'll see.

Glad to see that the spam woke this place up.  Admit it, y'all are sitting in your wheelchairs in front of the window dreaming about the days when you had teeth and hearing ...  <BG>

I changes interbuddies settings. Anyone can sign up if they choose to,
but their first message has to go through me before it is distributed
to the list.

I've been banning 4 or 5 new users a week - sometimes 4 or 5 in one day,
but I haven't seen any spam getting through any more.

I've been back at work since Dec. 1. They have me filling in for
another guy who they sent to India (my idea). So far so good, but he's
back for Christmas, and it sounds like he doesn't want to go back.
We'll see how it works out.
