I'm translating a software manual from German to English.
You don't have to know German to help (but it won't hurt Jeff any) :)
Basically, in the manual, The germans give two definitions of Authenticate.
They use two different words for the two definitions
Authentifizierung and
Authentisierung
The problem is that we only have ONE word "authenticate" for these two words.
Can you guys please look at these two definitions and tell me what I should call the second one?
Authentication
Procedure in which proof of identity is provided by a card, terminal or person. Authentication is an elementary part of many cryptographic systems.
External authentication: Procedure by which the outside world (a terminal, for example) authenticates vis-a-vis a card.
Internal authentication: Procedure which proves that the card is genuine using an algorithm, a random value and a secret key.
Authentication
Authentication is the procedure for proving the genuineness of an entity (e.g. a chip card) by means of a cryptographic process. Expressed more simply, authentication allows you to determine whether someone is who he says he is by means of an established process.
Many thanks
Eric
Jeff
Matthew 22:37-40 ESV And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. (38) This
is the great and first commandment. (39) And a second is like it: You shall
love your neighbor as yourself. (40) On these two commandments depend all
the Law and the Prophets."

I'll try to digest it in a minute.
You know how the Germans are...they will repeat themselves using just slight different words...like "technisch" and "fachlich" which are really the same thing. I hate having to come up with two ways to say everything in English too...it's redundnant...or that French disease "deja vu" all over again :)
If you had Trados I would knock you off a chunk of this....but it has to be done in Trados :<
44,000 words by the end of the month might just kill me :)
Thanks!
