Looking through via Deja (now Google) I have seen that this is a common
problem but none of the FAQ's or solutions given help me.

Anyone with any suggestions will save my sanity, if they work.

I have a server whichis running RedHat 7. I have installed Interbase
6.01 SS edition. If I try to connect to the server from IBConsole in
Win2k or locally on the linux machine I get a message saying "Unable to
connect to localhost. Connection reset by peer".

I have tried all of the suggestions that I have read, which are:

Added localhost to hosts.equiv
Added the ibase file in the xinetd.d directory
checked hosts.allow and hosts
services has the correct entry
netstat -a shows that it is listening

I have also added the actual name of the server to hosts.equiv and I
have messed around with various other settings. All to no avail. Can
anyone please tell me what I have missed or failed to do. I am getting
very frustrated, I want to use Interbase but I am running out of ideas.

Thanks in advance and apologies for the cross post.
Cheers,
Neil

'localhost' is your local computer - the Win2k box. You have IBConsole
configured to try to connect to an IB Server on the Win2k computer. You
need to register a *remote* server (not a local one) with the address of
the Red Hat box. I'm running IB 6.01 SS on RH7 and accessing it from
IBConsole just fine from my local Win2k box.

I get the same message regardless if I do it on the Win2K box or locally on
Linux. I guess I wasn't clear on that bit.

Cheers anyway,
Neil

You can't do it locally on Linux. IBConsole is a Windows program.

...unless you're running IBConsole under WINE or something...?
