This study is of interest! Should we invite Morgan to be on our sponsored panel for 2026?

Subject: [WPA-Ann] Survey: Pilot Study: IP and AI
To: <wpa-anno...@googlegroups.com>

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone is enjoying their time at Cs! My name is Morgan Banville and I am an Assistant Professor of Humanities at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. I am piloting a study based on a webinar I recently conducted with GSOLE. This pilot study is IRB approved, and responses will assist in determining my research trajectory aimed at better understanding how instructors envision intellectual property impacting students, as well as the general public (those outside of higher education). I am particularly interested in how instructors communicate with students about generative artificial intelligence’s impacts on intellectual property.

Thank you for your time and consideration! Here is the link to the survey: https://uri.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_02JNvNjdmQmke8e

Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns,

Morgan Banville

The consent paragraph:

You are being invited to participate in a research study titled “Intellectual Property and Informed Consent: Interrogating Critical AI Literacies” being conducted by Morgan Banville, an Assistant Professor of Humanities at Massachusetts Maritime Academy (Case #2025091). The goal is to survey approximately 40 individuals who identify as higher education instructors in the United States. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. It is hoped that this information will assist in better understanding how intellectual property and generative artificial intelligence are discussed in the college classroom. Your responses will be kept confidential, and no data will be released or used with your identification attached. Your participation in the research is voluntary. You may choose not to answer any or all questions, and you may stop at any time. We will not be able to pay you for the time you volunteer for this portion of the study. Please call Morgan Banville at 508-817-6937 for any research related questions or Bridgewater State University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) has at i...@bridgew.edu for questions about your rights as a research participant.

Yes, I would vote for her being on the panel.  She has been a very active researcher, as well as a leader of various initiatives.   Best, Karen
