Hi all,
With the release of YouWrite, AnyWord, Rytr, and other GPT-3 and OpenAI tools, this might be an important time for us to address how these ML systems operate to support plagiarism. Many people fail to understand where the IP these systems provide comes from,
how they utilize text and concepts without permission, and that (by design) they obscure plagiarism from both the learner and teacher.
We are officially moving past Grammarly - this is a real issue coming up. For instance, I didn't write the paragraph above - I just gave a prompt to YW.
Is anybody looking into this or aware of researchers who are? It might be nice to include something on this in the annual. If nobody else has a strong opinion I'm happy to take on a short op-ed this season.
