Dear all,

Welcome to the August 2024 update of the Intelligence Studies Network.

The database has now 7,213 publications after the addition of 191 items in July 2024. You can check recently added items on the Digest page https://intelligence.streamlit.app/Digest.

A preprint has been released on arXiv explaining the database, website, and workflow for collecting and indexing sources. You can read the preprint here which is open access:

Ozkan, Yusuf A. “‘Intelligence Studies Network’: A Human-Curated Database for Indexing Resources with Open-Source Tools.” arXiv, August 7, 2024. https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2408.03868.

The entire dataset containing the metadata of publications within the Intelligence Studies Network database is now available on Zenodo. The dataset will be updated quarterly. You can access the dataset from the following link:

Ozkan, Yusuf A. “Intelligence Studies Network Dataset.” Zenodo, August 15, 2024. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.13325699.

Updates on the website:

  1. Search within collections: Users can now search keywords within each individual collection page. Please note that the search function aims to allow users to do a quick search. Therefore, unlike in the home page, the search function on collection pages does not support Boolean operators.
  2. Digest page: The digest page now supports filtering items based on the date of addition to the database. There are two specific filtering options (items added in the last 7 or 30 days). However, you can select a data range manually from the custom filter.
  3. Sidebar menu: As you may have noticed, the sidebar menu now has sub fields. For example, collection subpages are now listed under 'Collections'.
  4. Dashboard: Users can now limit the publication year to the last 5 years for most of the visuals displayed in the main dashboard of the website. This will help users to focus on more recent publications instead of seeing the whole picture.

Please don't forget to share this email and the website (https://intelligence.streamlit.app/) with your colleagues and friends.

I would love to hear your thoughts. Please feel free to share any comments or feedback with me.

I will see you in the next bulletin.

Best wishes,

Yusuf
