I have the 945 intel. I've been able to get oblivion to play, however
it only plays with the old-oblivion mod. I've tried both 3d Analyzer
and Soft Shader but neither work. They both crash before successfully
loading a level, but the game's menu loads fine.

Does any one have a suggestions?

It would be nice to run oblivion without the old oblivion mod so that
I can use the latest patch.

SwiftShader 2.0 does successfully emulate VERTEX shader 2.0 as well,
so it's probably your RAM or your CPU's that's insufficient.

The same happened to me when I tried to play Heroes of Might and Magic
V. Menu loads beautifully, but crashes when you try to play the actual
game.

Oblivion without the mod probably used Shader Model 3.0, which is why
both 3dA and SS2.0 failed. 3dA does not properly emulate shaders (it
just tricks the game/software into believing you have them), and SS2.0
only emulates Shader Model 2.1.

Best you get yourself an actual 3D card, or wait patiently until
SwiftShader 3.0 comes out (which will probably be 5 years from now)

You can* get oblivion to run using the 3da, i forget which config,
I'll look mine up in a bit. The only problem, is that even with 3da,
the water effects will still crash oblivion, so you have to edit the
ini to not perform water effects. Personally i preferred oldblivion,
but if you want i'll see if i can find the configuration i used for
3da, and the line of code in the ini to stop the water effects.
