I am CC'ing a copy of an email I sent to Hauppauge and ULEAD to this group.
I am doing this so that memebrs of these boards can judge for themselves
what sort of response these two companies provide.

Is there a software package that works with the 250 to create VCDs?
It must have a UI to produce chapters. In fact, I would appreciate a package
with serious editing capabilities.
Please do not refer me to ULEAD DVD Movie Factory. It produces results with
synchronization problems.
I have wasted the last four weekends trying to produce a simple 30 minute
instructional tape with chapters using ULEAD DVD Movie factory - based on an
mpeg file created with Hauppauge WinTv PVR-250. It not only produces out of
sync results, but locks up with an alarming frequency.
Why Hauppauge would ship such a product with the WinTv PVR-250 is beyond me.
I want to make sure you understand this: with reagrd to producing VCDs, DVD
Movie Factory SE does not produce satisfactory results with the WinTV
PVR-250 (nor does DVD Movie Factory).
I have download EVERY suggested driver upgrade from both Hauppauge and
ULEAD; all to no avail. I have tried - literally - more than 100
permutations of recording / writing settings in Hauppauge and ULEAD to no
avail.
I am disappointed that Hauppauge would ship a product that has obviously not
undergone full testing with a Hauppage product.
Again, is there a software package - for the Win2000 environment, that
provides a full range of editing capabilities to include chapter
production - that will produce VCDs given a MPEG file produced with the
Hauppage WinTv PVR-250?

Bob Vera
I completely agree with you,
Hauppauge could at least create a package with the existing softwares.
It's now 2 years I got my Windvb'S,and only since 6 months that I
can edit and create Svcd, Vcd ..etc
On the Hauppauge site you find "Nanopeg editor ",it is a decent software to
cut mpeg1 & 2
Here is the list of the essential programs (freeware )I use:
PvaCut v2.30 http://www.tirtanium.de
Pvastrumento to demux and make compliant mpeg. www.offeryn.com
TMPGEnc (many fonctions to transform video)
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/e_main.html
Dvd2svcd ,a perfect toolbox : http://212.88.77.140/
It's not with Hauppauge instruction that I find these links.

Just to follow up on my initial comments regarding Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250
and ULEAD DVD MovieFactory. I was trying to create a VCD with chapters.
After processing a file through ULEAD, the file was out of sync.

Both Hauppauge and ULEAD have sent me suggestions and driver update notices.
I have tried each SUGGESTION - to no avail.
I have spent at least 2-3 hours per evening and about 6-8 hours on weekends
over the last 4 weeks trying to get these products to work. I am no
technical slouch (having a BS in Engineering Physics) and consider myself
pretty handy around a computer (10+ years as a software developer involved
with full life cycle management), yet the combination of these two products
has put me to the quick.
Hauppauge does indeed capture the image into an mpg format; and it is in
sync.
ULEAD DVD Movie Factory probably does work wonderfully under some other
conditions.
However, when Hauppauge bundles ULEAD with their product - it is assumed
that the two work together to produce the an appropriate result. In my case,
that end result was to be a VCD with chapters. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN.
Therein lies the BIG problem. It is a failure on Hauppauge's part. It is an
unacceptable failure.
I resent having shelled out the bucks for both these products. Never again.
I would offer my board for sale - but it violates my principles.
I can not state this more emphatically ... DO NOT BUY THE HAUPPAUGE WinTV
PVR 250.
I am done with this issue; thanks for letting me vent.
