Im using a Avermedia TVCam98 in Windows 98 to capture television, i cannot
get any sound in capture programs like virtual dub, premiere, ulead
multimedia studio etc, however i can get sound in the Tv playback and
Capture programs that came with my card and programs like WinVCR. My Card
uses the Brooktree 878 Chipset and has external audio which is fed into the
line in on my soundcard, are these programs not compatable with this kind of
device?
Darren.

That's because the board is coming with DirectShow drivers which turn off
the tuner's sound on the capture board. A video for Windows based capture
program is using the WDM wrapper to access the board. The wrapper now does
not know about the special kind of device and is not able to turn on the
sound. There is a utility available from Hauppauge (audiosel.exe) to address
the problem with their boards. I don't know if it would work with your
borad. Another trick seems to be to start up the TV application AFTER you
started up the capture programm. The whole problem IMHO is caused by a
unlucky implementation of the DirectShow reference drivers from Connexant
(former brooktree) with regard to handling the audio.
