Print jobs stuck in NetportExpress Pro / 100

Print jobs are spooled by NT server 4.0 +SP3 using LPT1_passthru to NetportExpress Pro/100 print servers over a WAN link network.
The problem symptom is that the print job is printing shown in the printer properties but the printer phsically receive nothing. Also, this pbm occurred after a number of printers are relocated to a new site that requires a WAN link network. Any ideas or suggestions to improve the performance?

Are you able to ping the NetportExpress(TM) PRO/100 print servers IP address?

Can you are able to ftp to the device and put a job to the print server?

Yes, you can both ping to the print server and put a print job to it via FTP.
The problem situation is improved a liitle bit after we change the properties of printer by selecting:

1. Start printing after last page is spooled.

2. Print spooled documents first.

In the meantime, we have to reset the NetportExpress Pro/100 and delete the first print job stuck to resume printing. Is there any hand-shaking problem as you will see?

Hi Raymond,

It seems like maybe the NetportExpress(TM) PRO print server is missing an acknowledgment packet. Is the printer connected parallel to the print server? If it is you might
want to slow the speed on the centronics port in the Netport(R) Manager software and see if that makes any difference. Also, make sure the parallel cable does not exceed
the 6 ft requirement.

The problem persists with the print job shows "printing - spooling" but actually it has been stuck for hours and does not print. By deleting the stucking job, it can seldomly bypass the problem. We can ping to the Print Server and the printer can receive job and print via FTP very quickly. All the printers are connected to parallel ports which are configured according to the instructions from Intel ( slow for dot-matrix , medium for laseret 4000 & 5000), and within the cable length limit. I wonder if the problem is related to the firmware version. Some of them are V04.41a. If wanna to upgrade to the current version, what are the procedures?
