I am want to run a BOOT/TFTP server application on a PC with windows 95
which will be directly connected to client machine(a diskless IBM compatible
pc with no operating system on it) with crossover cable. The client has an
Intel EtherExpress pro/100 plus LAN card which can look for a BOOTP/DHCP
server, on boot, for an IP address. The BOOTP server assigns the IP address
to the client and give it a boot file name to load. The client then ask the
TFTP server for the bootfile. The problem I am having is that TFTP server
starts sending the file to client. The client receives 1026 blocks(about
512Kbytes) of the file from the server and then the client shows an error
message. "PXE-E3A:TFTP too many packages". What does this message means? I
was not able to find any documentation on that. I am using mkimage.exe(a
utility I downloaded from Intel page) to create a boot image from a bootable
floppy disk.

This is the continuation of previous message...........

I know that nothing is wrong with the bootimage file. The image
file size is 1.44Mbytes. The same bootfile image was downloaded succesfully
to a client with Etherexpress pro/100 card(this card had bootware bootrom
installed on it). I have ran diagnostics on card, used couple new pro/100+
cards and tried different TFTP server but no use. How can I solve this
problem? Why does the TFTP client not accept a file bigger than
512Kbytes(approx.)? I want to remotely boot the (diskless)PC using the
BOOTP/TFTP server.

MKIMAGE.EXE is a program that will make a boot disk image to find our
Intel LANDesk(R) Configuration Manager. It is used to boot a DOS
workstation to the LCM to download a Operating System. The reason for
the error is that the workstation can not find a Intel LANDesk(R)
Configuration Manager. Do you have a Intel LANDesk(R) Configuration
Manager on the Network?

Lee,

I don't have Intel LANDesk(R)Configuration Manager. But the TFTP client should be able to download the whole file unless Intel LANDesk(R)Configuration Manageris a requirement for remote bootimage file. I have also used other image making utilities such as (IMAGEGEN) from bootware and winimage4.0 etc. just to see that the TFTP client is working OK. These utilities create image files with ".img extension". I have ran different TFTP client application, that I downloaded from the internet, on two different workstations and transfered the 1.44 Mbytes file from the TFTP server to those workstations.
Some questions comes to mind are that does EE pro/100+ card require(must) Intel LANDesk(R)Configuration Manager for remote boot purpose? what utility should I use to generate the boot image file? What formats of image files EEpro/100+ management Adapter recognize bootfile?

The mkimage program was written to find a Intel LANDesk(R) Configuration
Manager this is hard coded.

Suppose that I am not using mkimage utility. Is there any other utility I can use to create a boot image file which can be then download to EE pro/100+ card using LSA II?

I do not know of any, but that does not mean there is not any. I do not support the NIC cards so I really can not answer that question. You may want to post your question in
there newsgroug. They may be able to answer your question better.
