We are running the client only version of LANDesk 5.03 on all of our
workstations. On some of our PC's, when we run the Update Virus Pattern File
utility, it doesn't update the Version Information shown on the LANDesk Virus
Protect Client. I know the download & extraction are taking place because I
can see it happening & the new virus pattern file is in the VP5 folder...but
the client just refuses to recognize the new pattern file. I have tried to
move all pattern files but the most current to a different folder (c:\my
documents), but it still doesn't recognize the new pattern file.

Any suggestions?

Hello
Under the VP5 directory do you have a BADPATTS directory. This directory is a
indication of a corrupt pattern file. Delete the directory and the pattern file
from the VP5 directory and download a new pattern file.

No BADPATTS folder exists...one thing I have noticed is that when a workstation
downloads & recognizes the new pattern file with no problem the pattern file
being downloaded is ibmup.exe...when it doesn't work, the pattern file downloaded
is navup.exe.

What do you think?

Thanks!

Correction...I just tried to update a LDVP 5.03, the file downloaded was
ibmup.exe, vp30dr.vdb dated 6/10/99. The new pattern file is still not
recognized.

Where are you downloading from?

The pattern file you downloaded is for Version 5.02. You need to download
NAVUP.EXE
for 3.05. Check what you are downloading.

Lee,

I went to Intel's FTP site, downloaded & extracted the NAVUP.exe file found
there, then manually copied the vdb file to the LANDesk/vp5 folder. The scan
engine will still not recognize the updated virus pattern file.

Stop and restart the VP service. I've noticed that sometimes it won't
recognize the new pattern file unless you restart the LDVP service.

Hello
What is the size of the pattern file vdb? Have you rebooted the computer?

The pattern file - vd058e06.vdb is 2047k & is dated 6/7/99. I have rebooted.
One thing that seems to be common amonge the workstations that this is happening
on is that the Version Information on the LANDesk Virus Protect - Client screen
does not display any version information on the scan engine. Do you think this
could have anything to do with it?

If you have upgraded from a older version this could be a bad upgrade. Remove virus
protect and reinstall. The 5.03 files is a full install.
