Hi folks,

At the moment, my Dad and I are sharing a broadband internet connection over
a 2-way network.

However, we're hoping to include my brother's computer in this network, and
so need a 4 port router. We have recently just bought and tested an ADSL
Ethernet Modem which works fine, we hope, once we have the router, that the
new D-Link ADSL Ethernet Modem can conncect to the router, along with the
other 3 computers.

Essentially, we want to be able to access the internet without the use of a
'server' or, my dad's computer being on all the time!

The modem supports PPPoE/PPPoA and connects fine without a dial-up.

So, if this is possible, which I think it is, could anyone recommend a good,
cheap router, and also advise what exact network cables we need, as we're
not experts!

Thanks in advance,

Tom.

These articles will give you all the details you need.

As far as recommendations, my personal favorite is the Linksys BEFSR41
router. Its easy to setup, and will handle either fixed ip or PPPoE.

I've been happy with the four-port router my wife and I use to permit her
computer and mine to connect to our cable-modem service. It's the EtherFast
Cable/DSL Router Model BEFSR41 ver.2, by Linksys. You can get info on this
from several Websites, but the company site is www.linksys.com. I feel
fairly certain that it supports DSL as well as cable. And it's among the
least expensive. -- Allen

Thanks Allen, think I'll go with a Linksys router!

This EtherFast Cable/DSL Router Model BEFSR41 is it compatible for the
Binatone ADSL 2000 Modem/Router, i was told before buying it that it would
work, but i never knew it was a router aswell, and have been told i can't
disable the firewall to accept all ports on the Binatone.
