Intel 8220 Problem

I have 2 intel 8220 routers hooked up to a point-to-point t1. I have
purchased 2 Adtran tsu-120's so we can channelize the t1 and send 2
channels of voice. The problem is when I reconfigure the 8220's to
only use 22 channels, the conn light on the routers goes red and we
get an LCP error PPP link down. The only thing I am changing in the
router setup is the # of channels it should use. Is there something
else I need to change. When I change the routers back to use all 24
channels, the PPP link comes back up. I am turning of channels 23 and
24. Please help.
