SMC 7404BRB (a router with build in ADSL modem, operating over an ISDN line)

It is unbelievable that an equipment producer like SMC sells products in
such a non-usable state. To help other users I post the information worked
well for me. Believe me you won't find this in on the SMC support site. Then
again, if you don't mind the waiting, their toll free support hot-line did
help me all the way: thums up.

H2 get the router working for MX Stream (KPN / Planet Internet, the
Netherlands):

1. do the steps in the quick install manual

2. Work through the web-based SETUP menu

3. Go to the advanced settings and do the following:

WAN settings:

PPPoE: "disable"

ATM: Protocol: "PPoA"

VPI/VCI: 8/48

Encapsulation: VCMUX

H2 get the printer server running (Windows XP):

1. add a local printer

2. choose "create new port of type "Standard TCP/IP port"

3. enter the local IP address of the router and give the port a name

4. go to custom settings and enter the following:

Protocol: "LPR"

Queuename: "LPT1"

(leave the rest a it is)

5. finish (creating the port)

6. install/choose your printer on the newly created port

7. print a test page

Hope I reproduced it correctly and good luck with your router.
