Working with new server ... Intel 440GX+ motherboard, and Intel PRO/100+
Server adapter with 1 ethernet adapter on the motherboard and an additional
dual port Intel PRO/100+ server adapter # 711269-003.

Trying to install MS SBS v.4.0 on Intel machine.

Problem is that SBS install does not allow selection of vendor supplied disk
when configuring ethernet cards, so network setup crashes with following:

*** STOP: 0x00000000A
(0x00000000,0x00000002,0x00000001,0x8012C023)IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL***
Address 8012c023 has base at 80100000 -
ntoskrnl.exe.

The regular NT install does allow disk entry of ethernet drivers, and the
drivers install and run fine, but the SBS version skips this, and crashes
flatly.

I have gone so far as to create a new SBS install CD, substituting the
PRO/100+ drivers for the drivers in the E100B folder under
\1386\drivers.nic\ ... still no luck. Same Blue screen of death.

One suggestion is that I remove the added ethernet board, and disable the
motherboard based port, then stick a cheapo board in until the install is
complete.

Problem is that using the server board resource CD, there is no way to
disable the onboard NIC.

Help Guys !!

Hello:

Thanks for your inquiry about Intel® products.

This is not an Intel(R) Network adapter that is supported in this
forum, however, .....

Try installing the msloopback adapter during the initial
installation; this will allow you to install and configure your
desired services and protocol stacks. Then, after initial
installation, install your drivers for your embedded adapter.

Please let me know how you come out.

Best regards,

John C.

What ??? I thought I was in the newsgroup intel.network.adapters ??

There is no way to install the loopback adapter. If there is no network
card present, SBS 4.0 will install one automatically, but there is no
apparent way around the network adapter discovery and configuration process,
and unless you can disable the adapter on the motherboard, which the SSU
does not allow one to do, you cannot install Microsoft Small Business Server
Version 4 on an Intel L440GX+ motherboard with and 82559 Intel PRO/100
ethernet adapter built in.

I have downloaded the Intel L440GX+ Server Board Integration Guide for MS
Backoffice Small Business Server ... Revision 1.0 - April 1999. On page 7,
it says to use SSU to disable the onboard Ethernet adapter ... However, Both
Versions 2.2 and 3.R.1 of the SSU for this
motherboard do not make the DISABLE option available in the Ethernet Card
setup.

I am running Phoenix Bios 4.0, release 6.0 with
L440GX0.86B.0092.PO9.9909161407
Production Release 9.2 Bios Build 92.

This server will also have a dual port Intel PRO/100 Server NIC model
7112690-003, and an Adaptec RAID5 SCSI controller driving 5 18 GB HD's.

I am sure there is some deep hack, where a hardball expert could cobble
together a manual install process, but normal netadmins like me ... nahhh.
The install has to work out of the box.

Really, this is the wrong newsgroup to get support on Intel Network Adapters
... Really ???

Thanks

Thanks John, the download worked. Why in the world would the upgraded
editions of the SSU omit the disable function on the onboard Ethernet
adapter ???

Appreciate your assistance.
