I recently had to reformat my harddrive on a Dell M233A, when I installed the drivers for the network card I was then unable to use regedit directly from the start/run command line in Win95. This command is used during the installation of a program used within our company. When I try to run regedit from that command line I receive the error: cannot find the file "regedit" (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

This works as long as I DO NOT install the drivers for the PRO/100+ PCI. Any suggestions for installing the network card without it disabling the regedit command. It also seems to affect the advanced option of the taskbar properties/start menu programs.

Suzanne:

Thanks for your inquiry about Intel® products.

The installation of the drivers for the Intel(R) network adapters in no way
will interfere with the ability to use and run regedit.exe. This is by
design, and also we have never seen this as an issue.

Please do a search for regedit.* with the Intel(R) network drivers NOT
installed, and also after you install the Intel drivers.

What drivers are you using; please verify the adapter you have in your
system by comparing the numbers on the sticker on the back of the adapter to
the chart at:

http://support.intel.com/support/network/adapter/21397.htm

Make sure you are installing the correct driver for your hardware.

Please let me know how you come out.

Best regards,

John C.

John,

The card that is in my PC is the Intel PRO/100+ PCI Adapter Part Number 668081-004

I have taken a snapshot the registry before and after the installation of the drivers which I downloaded from your website - file 100pdisk.exe. I am not familar with the settings for Windows which allows it's programs to be run from the Start/Run command line with out putting in the full path and file name, i.e., simply typing in the word regedit and clicking the OK button as opposed to typing c:\windows\regedit.exe and clicking the OK button.

This has occurred on two PCs in the office which have Intel cards in them.
