We are going to configure fault tolerant Lan cards and Switching hub .
But some fault tolerant configurations make lan card teaming error. (attatched below)
We used following configuration.

SW hub(standby) SW hub (Active)

__________ _____________

| | (Intel Lan cards teamed : Fault Tolerant)

ES2045 server

But , this configuration makes teaming connection error ( As I know, when the Lan cards were teamed with FT option, they check each other by heart beat checking . but in case of this configuration , sometimes , they fail to the chcking. So, we can see lots of error message on event log on the server)

The customer wants Fault Tolerant Lan card and Switching Hub.
Why does the teaming error like below occur ?
Would you please recommend the best configuration for this ?

James:

Thank you for the opportunity to assist you with your technical support
issue.

The issue you cite below is not seen often in an environment you describe.

What is the EXACT model number of your adapter; please see the bar code
sticker on the back of the adapter? The number I need is in the format of
"123456-xxx".

You can both find information to identify your Intel(R) Network Adapter and
locate the latest driver set for your adapter at:

http://support.intel.com/support/network/adapter/pro100/21397.htm

What is the driver you are using; please make sure you are using the latest
driver for your hardware. What is the operating system you are operating,
and the service level or patch level?

We look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Thanks for your answer and conern,
Actually, we extracted the log message from WINNT4.0 environment but whatever the OS and Intel lan card is, the message is showed in the fault tolerant environment .
Following is one of the OS environments ,
OS : Windows2000 Datacenter RTM version , sp1
Lan card : 717037-004
Intel Pro/1000 Gigabit adapter NGIS 5
Driver : 2.19.219 , E1000nt5.sys

The teaming software was designed to provide redundancy for NICs, cables,
and single switch ports. Some times some extra tweaking of the probes is
required to get a measure of fault tolerance for the switch. I need to say
straight off that you need communication between the NICs for the probes.
Both switches will need to be active and interconnected, preferably with a
redundant path. The alternative is to run without probes. The teaming will
still work without probes, and will still detect most failures.

Looking at the log file it looks like the adapters are not maintaining link
to the switch. What switch are you connecting to? Are you using 1000 or 100?
What duplex? Have you tried forcing speed and duplex on both adapters?

Thank you very much for your answer.
The name of SW hub is Cisco catalyst6509.
and all kinds of Lan card teamed were same status ( no matter what it is 1000 or 100)
we set the lan card to full duplex.
Anyway,
You said, there is alternative to run without probe. How do we implement that ? Is there a option in Intel adapter utility ?
Please, let me know that .

Thanks in advance.

To disable probes go into the advanced settings for the virtual NIC. You
should see a setting called Probe, set it to disabled.
