I'm having trouble getting a USB card I'm trying to install in a PCI slot to
work properly in my 4½ year old Gateway Pentium Pro G6-200. Actually the
USB card works fine installed by itself but it will not work with the Dell
(Aironet) wireless NIC I installed last year. Both devices are assigned IRQ
10. This computer has the Gateway OEM version of the Intel VS440FX
motherboard. I long ago upgraded the Gateway BIOS to the latest available
version. I also long ago upgraded to Windows 98 Second Edition, and IRQ
steering is enabled and working. I've tried the cards in virtually every
imaginable combination of arrangements in the 4 PCI slots, but none worked.
I've tried installing each device individually, then manually setting memory
and I/O settings followed by trying the second card. I've tried disabling
IRQ steering. I should mention that there is a third PCI card installed
too; a video card that came with the machine. I've tried getting support
from Gateway, Microsoft, and the USB card manufacturer (SIIG) but nothing we
've tried has been able to resolve this problem. I'd appreciate any
suggestions you can offer, plus suggestions of other newsgroups to which I
should post this request. Please remove "nospam" from my reply address to
e-mail me directly. Thanks.

Does your BIOS give you an option to turn off PnP os?

Your network card is probably the culprit. Have you tried the usb card
without the network card?
