I apologize if I am posting this question in the wrong place, but this
seems to be the most suitable location...

What sort of drive can I add to my Advanced/EV motherboard? Is it EIDE
capable? ATA-2? ATA-3? I have looked at the documentation and all it
says is that it is that is can do 16MB/sec, PCI/IDE burst transfers, PIO
Modes 3 and 4.

Any help is appreciated.

syd82,

Advanced/EV support site: http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/AdvancedEV/

With the latest Intel BIOS version, you can use an IDE/ATA drive at sizes up to 8.4 GB. The current ATA33, ATA66, and ATA100 drives are backward compatible. Your board doesn't support the new drives' maximum transfer speeds. But, they will work at your board's maximum transfer speed (16 MB/sec).

Some options to support drives larger than 8.4 GB:

Use the free overlay software provided by the hard drive manufacturer (can hurt system performance).

Buy a third-party BIOS upgrade.

Buy a BIOSed hard drive controller card. These can also add support for the faster drive speeds.
