The system I just built failed to boot when first applied power.

No beeps. Nothing on monitor.

Intel D850GB P4 423 pin 1.7ghz
Antec case with their 400W power supply
Hercules GeForce 2 MX 64mb (1.5 v, proven to work in another
system)
Teac Floppy
Corsair memory-two sticks of 128mb ECC PC800 RDRAM-installed in
the correct slots with crimms in the other to slots.
Monitor works fine with another system
P4 installed with thermal compound and the fan worked fine.
After 20min of running the heat sink never got more than just
warm at it's base. Could touch it all day. The mainboard's green
light was on.
All connections were triple checked. Everything was removed but
the video card, CPU, ram and still no beeps or video. I then
removed the ram and got 3 long beeps. Reinserted the ram no
beeps again.
The processor was removed and showed no obvious cracks. No loose
screws etc found touching mainboard.

The current bios probably won't recognize the 1.7 chip.
I had it happen to me with a 1.6 chip.
You have to download the latest BIOS and then do a BIOS recovery as detailed
in the manual.

Make sure that you have installed both RDRAM sticks correctly...
ONE in EACH channel and one terminator/feedthru for each
channel.

Also the RDRAM sticks must be identical !

Refer to your owners manual or down load all of the PDF files
from Intel's D850GB web site.

The above link will get you to the Intel D850GB web site... READ everything!
