Could some tell me what the max processor I can upgrade to on my current
motherboard. I have a P3 500 and I belive the motherboard uses the BX
chipset.
The computer is manufactured by Gateway 2000. I`ve looked on thier site but
without any luck.

Many thanks

Mark

Has anyone got one of these? They look like they could be my P3 500 upgrade
solution as well.

Joe.

I'm pretty sure you can just drop the 100MHz FSB Celerons in there. They
autosense the correct configuration for multipliers and stuff. Just buy a
celeron and the slot 1 adapter and go fast. Make sure to get the latest
BIOS from Gateway prior to upgrading though. Of course motherboards are
pretty cheap too, you could get a new one with AGP 4x (if you don't have it
already), ATA/100 or ATA/133, IDE RAID, or a different processor format,
like P4 or Athlon XP.

I work for Gateway and the answer to your problem is fairly simple...
You need to determine exactly which chipset you have on your board
(Simple call to tech support, they can look it up by your serial
number). Then boogie on over to Intel's site where you will probably
find that you can drop in a PIII 850 (max, I think)slot 1 processor.
Don't quote me on the 850mHz part, it could be an 800. Just remember
to keep it to one of the 100mHz FSB procs.

I bought one of these

from

http://www.totalmemory.co.uk/

except that it was 10UKP cheaper then.
