I am considering purchasing a couple of 10.0GB IDE drives by Maxtor for use
in a Pentium 120 system with an Advanced/EV motherboard (AMIBIOS 1.00.06.CB0)
but I'm interested in first researching support for these large IDE drives on
the Advanced/EV. From what I have read, using IDE drives greater than 8.4GB
requires new BIOS interrupt 13H firmware routines, but I'm almost positive
that the 1.00.06.CB0 BIOS (the latest Advanced/EV BIOS version) does NOT
include this support. This BIOS version is quite dated, and I'm wondering if
Intel plans to provide future updgrades seeing as the Advanced/EV is a
discontinued product.

Does anyone know if Intel supports IDE drives greater than 8.4GB on the
Advanced/EV, and if not, are future BIOS upgrades planned? Third party BIOS
replacements and IDE adapter cards are available, but I think something from
Intel would be preferable. Intel's motherboard FAQ mentions that the Advanced/EV
supports drives greater than 2.1GB, but they neglected to mention whether drives
greater than 8.4GB are supported, which I doubt, so perhaps the FAQ should be
updated.

The Advanced/EV motherboard will not accept drives larger than 8.4GB. I
do not expect a new BIOS upgrade for this motherboard in the future.
To find out what hard drive sizes are supported by your Intel
manufactured motherboard please see URL

Information on the Advanced/EV motherboard, commonly referred to as
'Endeavor,' can be found at URL
http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/ev/index.htm
The latest BIOS version for this motherboard is version 1.00.06.CB0 and
can be found at URL http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/ev/ev_bios.htm
Sound drivers for the Advanced/EV can be located at URL

I bought a Western Digital 10.1GB IDE drive and found out that 1.00.02.CB0 BIOS did not even recongnize the drive. After finding the 1.00.06.CB0 BIOS, I figured that my troubles were solved. I did not find any info on disk size restrictions in the bios documentation. When I updated the bios, I relealized my troubles are not over yet. When are you coming out with 1.00.07.CB0 BIOS to address the >8.4GB IDE problem.

Hi, I have the same problem.
Do a disk < 8,4 GB work with BIOS 1.00.02.CB0 or do i need to install the BIOS
Upgrade?
I didn't found any information either.

Regards,
Steffen.

I'm sorry Mark but today there is not any information about BIOS limitation
on hard drive volume at the URL http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/AdvancedEV/.
May be you'll be so glad to answer more correctly to that and another one motherboard - Advanced/ZP with BIOS version 1.00.06.
Very much obliged
