I have a Pentium 2 slot 1 processor on a Microstar ATX BX7 motherboard. I
want to upgrade it to a Pentium 3, however I need to know what type of Slot
1 P3 processor I can go up to and if there is a specific type of P3 that it
would need.

I would be grateful of some advice.

Sure. Go get the AMD Athlon XP 2100+ and throw away all that intel crap.

Hi,
According to Microstar's website you should be able to upgrade to a
1ghz slot one processor. For more information look at this page at their
website.

I am going to say this a bit more politely than Yesh Sure and explain. Your
board supports up to a one gig slot 1 but that is it. Find slot CPU's is
difficult and you would probbably pay 75-100 dollars for it and your compute
would be at the end of its potetial. Instead sell what you got on ebay and
if money is tight buy something like an ECS K7S5A mobo and a 1 gig Duron
which with shipping fan and heat sink would only be a tad over a hundred
dollars. and you would have a board that supports ATA 100, and SDRam and DDR
ram so you could always come back later and add a nice 2 gig athlon and ddr.

Athlons are overheating piles of shit. If you have your comp. in your
bedroom and on 24/7 you have to get an Intel. Your system can then be
silent. They are faster than Athlons now. And I've had enough of VIA
chipsets as well

Look here:
http://www.compuvest3.com/engine/default1024.asp?17072

They have PIII Slot 1's with 100MHz FSB's from 450MHz to 1000MHz at good
prices; all are in-stock.

Are you serious? How much quieter is it, than the 1.2 GHz athlon I have
now? That's really my main knock on AMD, as I run ALI and SIS chipsets
;-)

Hello
Ok Intel is a good cpu and yes amds do have some heat prob. but if I can get
an amd xp 1800 for the same price as a p3 1gig. it is not hard to see what
is better. And Visualspirit if you are going to buy any computer stuff
online goto www.tirgerdirect. Much cheaper prices.
