Hi,

Firstly, thanks once again for the replies to my previous questions.

I have been reading the Quick Reference Guide pages (and the Specification
update) and checking on the Spec numbers and the differences between the
different CPU's of the same speed (233MMX) with different Spec numbers (Sl27s,
Sl2BM and Sl293).

My questions are

1. If a CPU with a specific Spec no. is listed to come with an attached
heat sink/fan does it follow that this fan _WILL ALWAYS_ be an Intel fan
or can an alternate brand of fan be used on these processors.

2. What are the differences (if any) between "Intel boxed processors" (eg SL293)
and "Desktop Processors" (eg SL27s) and those processors that come in
PPGA packages. What does the PPGA refer to ?

3. Can a processor with any Spec no. be sold without the shrink wrapped Intel
box. My retailer refers to these CPU's without the box as "OEM" processors and
seems to have processors with a variety of spec numbers in this format.

I hope you can answer these questions, as my retailer is presently only offering
to replace my previous (remarked) CPU and I want to be sure I don't get
another remarked one. I would rather a refund but he seems very reluctant to
accept this course of action.

Thank-you for your continued assistance with this issue.

Paul

If you are worried about getting another remarked processor, you should be.
Since Intel's only response to those customers who do get a remarked
processor is to return it to the place of purchase there is a high
probability that you will get another remarked processor and that the one
you return will get sold to another customer as soon as possible.

Intel's total lack of concern or response to the dealers selling remarked
processors is beyond comprehension. The remarking fraud is a growing
problem and will continue to be one until Intel acts on this issue. But
Intel has stated that going after the dealers is just to much trouble for
them, so, you the customer pay for their inaction. Too bad that Intel
doesn't seem to be concerned about their reputation in this matter, perhaps
it would help their market's confidence in their products and help in
reversing their currently poor financial reports.

Demand a full refund for the fraudulently remarked processor that they sold
to you and proceed to a reputable reseller. If they are willing to rip you
off for a few dollars with a remarked processor then they will most likely
be willing to do so with other components as well. If they argue about
doing so, proceed to your local district attorney's or city attorney's
office, what they are doing is a criminal act.

If the specification update specifies that to will have an attached
fan, the manufacturer of the fan will be Sanyo Denki. This is the
company that Intel contracts with to provide the fan solution for boxed
processors.

Electronically, they are the same processor.

The SL293 comes with the fan heatsink, installation instructions, an
Intel Inside(R) sticker, and a 3 year limited warranty.

The SL27S comes with whatever the vendor gives you including the
warranty.

Yes, these parts can be sold, but they do not come with any (some would
call necessary) extras that the boxed processor comes with (like a
warranty)
