Hi there!

I have recently upgraded my computer to an Intel Pentium MMX 233Mhz.
At least that's what they told me.
How can I be sure what type of processor I have ? What should I see
written on top of the processor (I wouldn't want to have to take it
out of the socket)?
Will I be sure it is not an inferior processor set at 233Mhz?
(Is there any software that could give that info? The utility from
Intel isn't that detailed...)

Thanks!

Pull the processor out of the socket and look on the bottom.
Usually the last 3 digits in the number series identifies the speed.

Hi,
It should have 80503233 on it and a number similar to SL27X (now this
one
is for a 166MHz so if you have SL27X on it it's a fake).
If you want to know what it is repost with the S-spec.

The specification number off the top of the Pentium chip that I bought is A80503233 SL27X. This was sold to me as a Pentium MMX 233MHz processor. I cannot find any reference to this number on Intel's web site.

In a previous post, a reference was made to fake Pentium 233 chips. Can someone point me in a direction to verify what I have?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
You have a fake processor originally 166MHz w/ MMX S-spec SL27K
A quite common found fake. Return it.

Micheal,
the markings that you have provided are not consistent with the 233MHz
Pentium(R) processor with MMX(TM) technology.

Could you reply with the complete markings from the top and bottom
sides of the processor. Please include, also, the name, address, and
phone number of your vendor.

Thank you,

Joseph,
The chip is in gray, ceramic packaging.

The markings are as follows:
Front of chip:
Intel (R)
Pentium(R)
w/ MMX tech
A80503233 SL27X
8783560 - 1976
INTEL (M) (C) /92 '95

Bottom of chip:
16863750BG
MALAY DE
A80503233
SL27X/3.2v
iPP <- etching

I purchased the chip, which was advertised as being a Pentium MMX 233MHz
processor, in March 1998 through OnSale Exchange from
Frank Tabernilla
c/0 FLiTeCo
4300 S. Landar Dr., Suite 2S
Lake Worth, FL 33463
key...@prodigy.net
(I don't have a phone number)

In correspondence with Mr. Tabernilla, he stated that he purchased
multiple chips from (a now defunct?) Datamax Technologies. He also
stated he will not refund any money because it took me this long to
ascertain that I have a fake.

It appears this person has several email addresses, and his phone number is readily available by search through Excite Email Lookup (white pages)...
