I am interested in purchasing a new computer. I have heard that Apple G4 computers are the fastest. Is this true???

yes its true but there is more to a computer than a fast chip like software, chipset, cost of peripherals etc... so even though the g4 is better i would still buy intel

Go for the PIII, definitally. As this other guy said, even though it's faster (the G4) it will cause you headache and dissapointment after long. If you never plan to upgrade or add on peripherals, then you might still consider a G4. The thing the other guy said that the G4 is better I don't agree with. Faster maybe, but never better.

Hello Michael ,

There are many websites and magazines that will offer performance comparisons
between our processors and those of other companies:
http://www.zdnet.com/
http://www.computers.com/product/list/0,3,0-11-101-x-1,00.html?st.co.cd11..sbcat101
http://www.pcworld.com/top400/category/0,1377,Motherboards-Chips,00.html

The performance data for the Pentium(R) III processors is posted at:
http://www.intel.com/procs/perf/index.htm

The Pentium(R) III processor features the following:
Frequencies of 550 MHz, 500 MHz and 450 MHz
Integrated L2 cache (512K)
70 new instructions, including Streaming SIMD (Single Instruction
Multiple Data) Extensions for enhanced application performance
Memory streaming architecture
Concurrent SIMD architecture (No more state switching)
New media instructions
8 new 128 bit registers
IEEE-754 compliant mode for scientific/engineering calculations
FT. (flush to zero) mode for applications that do not require IEEE
precision.
The processor serial number

Intel(R) support does not comment on the products from other companies, or offer
the kind of comparison data you are looking for. This is for a couple of
reasons. Companies that do so often appear biased, and it is actually an
illegal practice in some countries.

Additional posts will be removed.

I dont understand what you mean when you say it will cause me headache and and dissapointment. Can u please back up this statement. As far as scanners, printers and zip drives, I dont see any reason why upgrading would be difficult. Coming from a PII Aptiva, the G4 system seems pricey but in my experience with computers, you get what you pay for. Three times the performance of its competitors is a considerable difference.
