I replaced a pentium II with a III. Its not working. Yes I know that the motherboard probably won't work with this processor, but on the off chance that it did. Are there other steps that could be taken to make it work? All I did was unplug one and plug in the other. These were both upright, slot based processors that both fit into the same slot

Please post motherboard make/model, could help people answer your enquiry better.
Your motherboard may require a bios update, there maybe a *slim* chance that your old PII board is not running it's latest bios - but chances are that by now it is.
