I am considering upgrading my Pentium II 266 with a Pentium III processor.
I heard that the Pentium III sends its serial number to what ever web site
that you look at on the internet. Is this true of all Pentium III
processors, and if not then which ones have this feature, and which don't?
I'd also like to know why intel put this on the processor, and can it be
disabled?

It is on all PIIIs but can be disabled.
You might need a motherboard upgrade.
