Have you ever visited Bend, Oregon? Or any other city in Oregon in which
this river flows. The river is not called the DEE shoots it is called the
"da chutes" and "da chutes" county.

My mistake for not clarifying.
I did mean the short 'e' sound or the schwa, and not long.
I was, actually, just rafting on the river a few weeks ago.

Rafting on the Deschutes??? Thats a good river to take your grandmother on
these days, especially this time of year/weather. Its a little better when
we have a significant snowmelt in a short period of time.

But, take the time to get down to southern Oregon and run the Rogue and any
number of others down there or over to Eastern Oregon and give the Snake a
shot at beating you up. Either of these will abuse you much more than any
of us visitors to these forums :-)

Deschutes is a French word. You can pronounce it like this (somewhat):

"day-shut"

Actually, the "u" sound in "shut" should be more like the "u" in "music",
but less like the "ou" sound in "you". I guess I'm not making too much sense
but I don't think that "u" sound is used in English.
