What's the normal operating temp of this processor...

I have it installed in a Soya Dragon Ultra motherboard, no overclocking and
Motherboard Monitor is showing the CPU temp at 165 F on a regular
basis....this seems very high...

If thats right then all I have to say is. . .TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER. A P4
that hot?!?! Sure they will throttle down so you dont have to worry about
burnout but ouch, my AThlon XP only runs at like 100 F. Check your Heatsink
and make sure its making contact with the chip, cause if that readout is
correct (maybe you chose the wrong senor types in MBM) then your P4 is
running WAY too hot.

You neet to use a -10 to -15 degC (-18 to -27 F) compensation on the CPU
temp with this board. Run something in the background that stresses the
CPU (Seti@Home etc), watch MBM until you get a steady reading, then shut it
down and check the temp as reported by the ITE utility. This will allow you
to work out the amount of compensation to apply.

MBM will give odd readings after the ITE utility has been run. You will
need to reboot to get meaningful numbers from MBM.

I have a 1.7 GHz @ 1.87, and it rarely reaches 122F under
load; I'm using the "retail box" heat sink and fan.

I'm running the 2.0 gig version, and it runs between 90 and 110F (on a
D850MV using Intel Active Monitor). Stock fan and heatsink.

Thanks for all of the replies...I checked the Intel site and according to
Intel the max temp for this CPU should be about 77C....

However, Intel also states that many of the mobo sensors and programs are
very inaccurate and to check the temp of the CPU manually...if it doesn't
feel hot, it's probably ok........

At this point, I'm inclined to believe that SOYO and MBM don't work well
with the SIS645 chipset and environmental monitoring functions....especially
since both the bios and MBM report the cpu heatsink fan is not working when,
in fact, I can see it spinning....there is no observable heat coming off the
heatsink, and the power supply exhaust is cool.....

Loose connector on the MB??? I know my ASUS board monitors the fan
connectors to make sure they are in use? Are you using another power
connector for the fan??

While it is higher then I'd expect there is no reason to worry as it's
well within the normal & acceptable range.

What temp does Soyo's supplied monitoring program read?? Sure the cooler
is correctly installed? Using a boxed CPU & Intel cooler or another cooler?
Thermal pad on an Intel cooler there & not damaged?

More than likely it is bad cal on the sensor feed for that particular
measuring point. This wouldn't be the first board to have this issue (ie the
SY7-IS2 and P3's running "hot").

(OT - why can't SOYO seem to get this right?????)

I've got a P4-IS2 and my 1.7G P4 runs about 41C... my SY7-IS2 on a P3-866
runs about 79C according to BIOS readings, and I know that the chip is not
running that hot, as it replaced a SY7-VCAE board where the chip was more
like 39C... I don't lose sleep over it, but it is a poor indicator of
Software QA on the part of the BIOS team over in Taiwan...
