Some of these huge heatsinks are all that is needed.
I have a P II 350 that has only the heatsink, and it ran cool enough.
Though I much prefer also having a fan.
The specs for my Intel N440BX server MB say that when using a second CPU,
that CPU 2 should have a fan. Part of this is, I assume, due to the layout
of both CPU's with CPU 2 being above CPU 1 in a tower case.
But the server cases I have will blow plenty of air onto both CPU's
For normal use, you most likely will not need a fan.
And it looks to be a pain to change the heatsink on mine.
CPU2 did have a fan on the end of the heatsink, but due to space
limitations, I had to remove it (fan that is). But with plenty of air being
blown at the CPU's it's not real problem.
If you can hold your fingers on the heatsink nearest the center of the CPU
and it only gets slightly warm, then I'd not worry about it.
