I have a Sony Vaio PCV-J100 600mhz Celeron running XP Home with an
Intel 810 Direct AGP Chipset. I ran Belarc Advisor and it says my
mobo is: "ASUSTeK Computer INC. MEW REV 1.06." I want to upgrade to a
PCI video card to play 3D games such as Max Payne and Grand Theft
Auto. I have done a little research, and now I am terrified. Stories
of not being able to diasble the 810 chipset, conflicts etc. Has
anyone had success upgrading? If so, what should I be aware of and
which video card did you upgrade to? I am thinking of the ATI Radeon
7000 32 MB DDR; I need a PCI card because I do not have an AGP slot.
I read the Intel website about disabling the 810 chipset, but it also
says it is sometimes difficult to disable it in the BIOS. Does anyone
know how to disable it in the BIOS. Last thing: should I upgrade?
Will I just have a big headache at the end, or is it pretty painless?
