I have a Intel CN810 motherboard with a built in 4MB graphics card. I have
had to purchase a new PCI card (Hercules Prophet 4000XT) as the on board
memory is not sufficient. Problem is that the on board is causing a
conflict. I have tried removing the card from the system devices but
obviously it is re- installed every time the PC is re- booted. I have also
disabled the card through system devices but I am still getting a conflict.
There is no way in the BIOS to disable the card, how is it done? I have been
told by the card manufacturer (Hercules) that all the *.info files need to
be removed from the Pc. Can you tell me which ones they are? The FAQ at
Intel says to add the SVGA driver to the 810,me this is not an option in
driver update. I have tried to telephone Intel but they will only give
reseller support.

Have I been sold a "lemon" or is it something that is easily remedied?

Hi Marksfish,

With your video adapter plugged in NEXT to the CPU which disables the
on board video... see if you are still having a conflict.

If you are still having a conflict then:
IF your computer is coming up in SAFE MODE or IF your video is limited to
VGA MODE then try the following... You will need to see where the conflict
is:

If you are running MS Windows 98, + then use the "Properties" (Right click
on "My Computer") and then check "Device Manager", click on the "Display
Adapter" and then left click on your video adapter (Hercules ... ), Click on
the "Resources" tab and it will show you what is in conflict... <It is usually
an address> HIGHLIGHT the conflicting resource and then remove the
"check" from "Use automatic settings" and then click on the "Change
Setting" button. You should see a list of resource options for your board,
try selecting one that is not in conflict with another devices resources.

Good luck

Mark,

I recently had a Hercules 32mb graphics card installed by PCWorld for
25quid, into an 810 machine (Tiny PC), they sorted it out and saved me the
bother, but this was only as a last resort. So it can be done

Who's the muppet now? Last month i went to PC World and bought (I thought)
128MB RAM for the 2nd slot. I finally admitted defeat and sent the PC back
to the shop and told them I wanted it fixed or the money for my card back.
Guess what? They had sold me 256MB of RAM, problem solved, and a £25.00
refund!

Thanks to all who replied.
