HELPPPPP..... I've messed up the installation and uninstall of Intel
Create & Share, Video Phone and Intel Connect which included an older
Intel Video Phone and came with this computer. I'm now stuck with
entries in the registry which will not allow Intel Create & Share with
Video Phone to install.
Please, how should I handle this problem for cannot use the camera,
Video Phone, or Intel Create and Share? Please, how can I get Intel
Create and Share to install without it coming to a halt because it
thinks a newer version of the Video Phone is on-board which isn't any
longer??
A little background... this computer came with Win 95 and with an old
program called Intel Connect which included an old version of the Intel
Video Phone program:
Intel Connect V. 2
Intel Video phone V. 2.0.1.115 B HP4
A few months ago bought the Intel PC Camera Pack:
PC Camera CS330
Intel PC Camera with Intel Create & Share V.3
The Create and Share program wouldn't install the newer Video Phone
drivers etc... with the old program on and the old Intel Connect would
not recognize the new Video Phone that came with Create and Share.
Soooo, dumb me, I renamed the folder with the old Video Phone and
installed the newer Intel Create and Share which included the newer
videophone stuff and such. This allowed:
1. The newer Video Phone stuff and such to be used with Create and
Share
2. Intel Connect to use the old Video phone stuff for it
As you all know the Video Phone will not work on Net Meeting 3.1 with
Win 95 though it will work on everything else.
When I used the Video Phone with Create and Share, it went on-line and
updated. A couple of days ago I bit the bullet and updated to Win 98.
Here's where all the Video Phone and Intel stuff hit the proverbial fan.
Wanting the Video Phone to quit using the Win 95 files like:
ICAMPROC.EXE
I wanted the Win 98 install of Intel Video Phone. Wellll.... it wouldn't
reinstall over what was there!! Up popped a message saying to the effect
(1) a newer version of the Video Phone is on-board (this was because it
updated when first used), (2) have to use what is on-board or uninstall
it first, and the install comes to a grinding halt.
I then tried uninstalling everything in sight. First of all the Intel
Connect won't uninstall through Add/Remove for it says a file _setup.dll
isn't there. The file isn't in the main folder but is in several
subfolders. Tried copying it to the main folder but still says it isn't
there. Went through several old tape backups and it wasn't ever there.
Then tried to uninstall the old Video Phone and it pops a message saying
installation log not there. Was able to uninstall thru Add/remove Intel
Create and Share buttttt not its Video Phone. It is reported not there
or no installation log!!!! It seems stuff between the Video Phones have
gotten jumbled.
Ran and ran and ran the install on Intel Create & Share again and again
and again and that message still pops up saying a newer version of Video
Phone on and the install comes to a grinding halt. Sooo I deleted all
remnants of Intel Connect and the Video Phones and ran Norton System
Check. It found a few entries in the registry and I had it delete them.
Still the install won't work.
I have literally tried everything even to restoring it all from a tape
backup and redoing the uninstalls. No luck still get that message that a
newer version is on-board and it won't install. I can't reinstall Intel
Connect for it came on the computer from the factory and HP stopped
supporting it a good year of more ago.
On wandering around in the registry via Norton Registry Editor have seen
many many entries for ***alllll*** the Intel stuff and such (Intel
Connect, both Video Phones and Intel Create and Share) even though they
are all gone. These entries in the Registry are the cause of my
problems. I feel if I can get rid of all the Intel stuff and such stuck
in the Registry thennnnnn I can install.
I've posted a message about all this over on the
symantec.support.win95.nortonutilities.general
Symantec Norton Utilities newsgroup asking for help/advise on deleting
alllllll the Intel entries in the Registry via Norton Registry Editor.
Before tinkering with the registry I sure want to get a good backup of
the registry salted away, know how to use it if I need to restore it,
and specific instructions on deleting Registry items. No one has replied
yet. Here is an example of the Intel items still listed in the Registry.
Believe me there are many more:

I finally posted the same message over on the Norton SystemWorks and MS
Windows 98 newsgroups - with an added statement of no help whatsoever
from the Intel website or their newsgroup. MS Windows 98 didn't have any
help for me but at least they replied. The big help was from the Norton
newsgroup. With their help I was finally able to delete all the Intel
Video Phone stuff out of the Registry and successfully install it all
again. I used a combination of Norton CleanSweep/Registry Sweep and
Norton Registry Editor. I first did a Registry backup.

Before you buy.
I have probably spent over 2 hours on their website trying to get
support. All I get is that rote FAQ thingy. It comes up with a couple of
ideas about my problem, none really pertain to it and then the option to
try and try again the search thing. Absolutely useless. I did pose a
query over there about NetMeeting troubles back in September when I was
still running Win 95. None on the NetMeeting info on there website
really pertained to my particular problem then. I did get an E-mail from
them saying I needed to call a long distance number:
I then posted the same NetMeeting trouble here and got no replies. Since
then I have see replies to others saying it won't work with NetMeeting.
A few weeks later I upgraded to Win 98 and couldn't run any of the Intel
stuff. This is when I spent the 2+ hours on their website with no luck
and then posted the HELPPPPP message here. Soooo contacting Intel
support is not easy and not free - very disappointing. Don't mean to
take this out on you but wanted to state publicly my extreme
disappointed with Intel support.
Thank you for letting me vent my frustrations.
