Hi,

I found a printout for 'Adventure' for MDS written in Fortran. Does anyone already have this?

If not I'll arrange for it to be sent to Jon Hales.

Thank you.

Kevin

Hi Kevin

That sounds very interesting. I've not hurried with the tokenised BASIC printout in the hope that a second source of code would appear somewhere.

I'll scan the new material and make it available.

Best regards

Jon

Web search finds lots of versions of FORTRAN Adventure. 1) can you
search and identify what version yours looks like? 2) Can you, from what
you know of your physical copy, determine its actual origin? I'm saying
you'd say something like "this looks like a variation that's online from
X. I got this listing from an engineer's estate in year Y, they had an
MDS system." Those things matter to some people.

It is a listing of 'Collosal Cave'. I found it in folders of my dad's
work and he used various MDS systems at work.

It looks to be from around '78 because on the other side of the
printout (paper looks to be re-used) there is compiler output dated
78.

It shares a lot of code with Don Wood's version but there are
differences in the code and it is split into more files.

The text descriptions are mixed case and I see in the source 'Modified
for Intel Fortran-77 to run under ISIS-II operating system' and one
message reads "This program is a demonstration of Fortran 77 on the
ISIS-II Operating System. It is taken from a game originally developed
by Standford University Artificial Intelligence Lab , and derives from
the obscure game 'Dungeons and Dragons'. "

I'll look over the backup files I've got to see if it is there
otherwise it may be on one of the discs I gave to Jon or maybe just in
printed form.

Best Wishes,
Kevin

Thanks for the background, it's informative about how things happened in
the era, gives clues about where to find more info, and so on. I find
that this needs to be spelled out, for some people who find these
artifacts. "Who knew anyone was interested?"

https://bitsavers.org/bits/Intel/iPDS/EXECDEMO.IMD

as a iPDS 100 executable file for an apparent cave-search game.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/IntellecMDS/posts/25222798874000157/

found that disk image previously. Web search found the post.

IT's hard to find an archive of ISIS disks, that seems to have FORTRAN
sources. A lot of the archives for this group are not searchable by
Google etc, they are in Google Drives of the various members of this
group. My guess is, this game in FORTRAN was privately traded among MDS
and other Intel system owners and possibly support sites, Intel training
sites, etc.
