Loading data in IGB is a three-step process.

Step 1: To start, open the genome version for your data set.

To open a genome version you can:
  • Click one of the start screen photos to open the latest genome version for a species.
or
  • Use the Species and Genome Version menus in the Current Genome tab to open a genome
or
  • Add your own custom genome using File > Open Genome from File

Step 2: Open your data set:

  • If the data set is a file on your local computer, use File > Open,  or click the folder icon in the toolbar to open the data set.
or

  • If the data set is a file located on the Internet, use File > Open URL
or

  • If the data set is located in a Quickload data repository, select in the Available Data section of the Data Access tab.

Once IGB opens your data set, a empty track will appear with the name of the file or data set shown in the track label.

Also, a window will appear letting you know your data have been loaded into a new track. If not, no new track will appear and IGB will let you know there's a problem.

Step 3: Zoom in and click Load Data button (top right)

If your data sets is very large (more than 500,000 lines of data), you should zoom in to a region before loading the data.

if not, it's fine to load all the data at once.

To load all the data all at once, set the Load Mode of the data set to Genome using the Data Management table in the Data Access tab. This causes IGB to read the entire file into memory.
