In Jan 2020, an IGB user posted the following question to the IGB Jira board:

When I open IGB it shows me that it cannot connect to servers (Bio-analytic Resource, DNA-Seq, etc). Also, when I click on the mouse, it tells me "Mus musculus not available at this time. Please check that the appropriate data source is available. More information about what went wrong may be available in the Console. To get help, visit the IGB Help Page. " I have connected to two different networks, but I still continued with the problem.

After some discussion, we realized the problem had to do with the internet connection.

When you select a genome version, IGB contacts all the IGB Quickload sites that support that genome. If IGB cannot connect to the sites, it display the above message.

Sometimes this occurs if the internet is briefly unavailable during start up. If that happens, you can fix it by telling IGB to try to contact ("refresh") the data servers.

To refresh the data servers:
  • Select File > Preferences > Data Sources
  • Click "refresh" icon next to each data source listed
