Based on representations received from surveyors, GIPSA has issued
following clarifications vide
letter No. RK/SurveyFee/46/ms/2007 dt 28.08.2008:
`Survey fee in respect of fire and engineering losses should be based on
gross assessment without
any deduction for depreciation, under insurance, salvage value
and deductibles etc.'
The clarification should put to rest all controversies about what is
gross assessed loss.

Whether the same is applicable for Misc. Survey also?
Likewise if something is done for repudiated claims also it will be very useful for the surveyors.

Dear CA Lakshmanan,
There is another circular issued by Oriental Insurance around this time
which clarifies
the fees payment in marine and misc claims to be followed on same lines as
fire and
engineering. The complicated and repudiated cases are also taken care of in
this
circular. Attaching a copy of the same. (TD-CR-6214.pdf).

In fact long back I have assessed loss at Rs. 68,000/- for a claim of Rs. 10 lakhs and of course the fees received by me was only for Rs 68,000/-.

I have collected the circular about clarification on what is gross
assessed amount.
The same is attached. This circular is issued by OIC but having reference
of GIPSA
clarification letter can be followed by all PSUs.
