Dear Members,

It pains to know that our members are suffering in the process to get their licence renewed. The licence is required to earn the bread and butter. In this regard I would like to inform that there was a proposed meeting of surveyors' committee at IRDA office today. The meeting had its own agenda but IIISLA pushed the agenda of the delay in licence renewal into the agenda. Unfortunately the meeting was called off without intimating the reasons for such calling off. However it was decided that the higher officials should be met and the entire problem should be explained to them. Accordingly, the president and myself met the higher officials namely, Member Distribution, Mr. Suresh Mathur & Mrs. Rama Devi at IRDA office at Hyderabad today and had a very long meeting where the problems were explained to them with  some supporting documents. Some salient points discussed are as follows :
  1. IRDA is taking  too long time to renew the licence.
  2. Required Documents are asked at instalments rather than one go.
  3. IRDA portal is not members friendly and quite often it does not function.
  4. Licenceing authorities does not respond to members call and only a very short window is provided to members to call.
  5. Licencing authorities does not respond to members querry by mail or otherwise.
  6. Unable to get licence renewed, members from various part of the country are forced to go to Delhi office, but there also they do not get proper response.
  7. It was also explained to the authorities that due to delayed renewal, not only surveyors, insurers as well as consumers are also forced to suffer.
The senior representatives present there took a very serious note of this and confirmed verbally to sort out the issue as early as possible and make the licence renewal process easy and withing a limited time frame although they stated that there are some technical problem with the portal service provider.

We would also like to share with members that we would be following the issue and hopefully within a very short time we might be meeting the IRDA Chairman and if required we would present the issue before the honourable chairman sir.

Thanks & With regards

Dear Council members,

While meeting IRDAI officers of License department, on the issue of delays in license renewal, delegation came to know that this is due to some shortage of staff. Although a small mention is mentioned in the memorandum in this regard, but I feel that council while meeting the chairman on the issue should bring to his notice that that IRDAI herself has increased workload on licensing staff due to some decisions which should be reviewed.

1.  The license which were earlier renewed once in five years, are now renewed once in three years. It is obvious that a job which was to be done once in five years shall now be done in three years.

2.  Dual licensing system is no where in the law and is creation of IRDAI. The directors, partners of companies or firms are to not only renew their company license but their own license also. This was never the case prior to formation of IRDAI. This policy of dual license of directors/partners has also increased the work load on licensing department. In fact this dual licensing system must be abolished as the same is gross violation of law and IRDAI is not able to monitor misuse of two license numbers of one person.

The issue is getting complex and require urgent attention.
