Dear friends,
We hear regularly that survey work is more then sufficient particularly for motor surveyors and is increasing. And no surveyor is left without work in this boom time. In last few months I received two calls from surveyors that they have no work at all. They qualified the exam, taken training ,taken membership, got licence and having no work at all.
One surveyor was from small town and cases there are limited due to very few workshops in city and around . And already established surveyor was there. Only one branch favors the  established surveyor and he got no work even after one year of getting licence. And his family position does not permit him to leave city at all.

Second surveyor was from big city and his problem was same as he is not getting empanelment in any company despite many efforts and no work is there.

So I advised him to contact private players and start atleast from preinspection and then you will move up in ladder.

Now big question arises that after so much efforts, if some surveyors are not getting work then bigger hindrance is empanelment in company. Why not we think on the line of getting automatic empanalment after getting licence and IIISLA membership.  Second as CA got assistance from institute in getting work, does not IIISLA should take the responsibility of sustaining livelihood of newly entered surveyors.

If there are other surveyors sustaining such difficulties share your views so that concern should reach IIISLA and something concrete should be done.

This is not only a problem of new licenced surveyors, but also for the fellow member of the institute.

Rotation system is not followed in the Public sector companies.

Private sectors do not empanel all  surveyors.

No body/Iisla/Irda is not worried about this.

It is very hard to pay iisla subsription also.

D/friend I totally agree with you and in my opinion IIISLA should act in this matter. IIISLA must take necessarily action about the impalement of surveyors in all company (PSU & Private).

Dear All,

Please find below few quotes from the THE INSURANCE LAWS (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2015 which is deemed to come into force with effect from 26th December 2014.

82. For section 64UM of the Insurance Act, the following section shall be substituted, namely:—

64UM. (1) Save as otherwise provided in this section, no person shall act as a surveyor or loss assessor in respect of general insurance business after the expiry of a period of one year from the commencement of the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Act, 2015, unless he—

(b) is a member of a professional body of surveyors and loss assessors, namely, the Indian Institute of Insurance Surveyors and Loss Assessors: Provided that in the case of a firm or company, all the partners or directors or other persons, who may be called upon to make a survey or assess a loss reported, as the case may be, shall fulfil the requirements of clauses (a) and (b).

 (7) No insurer shall, after the expiry of a period of one year from the commencement of the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Act, 2015 pay to any person any fee or remuneration for surveying, verifying or reporting on a claim of loss under a policy of insurance unless the person making such survey, verification or report is an approved surveyor or loss assessor.

Hence, it is suggested that :

1.     To honour the Act, all Regional Insures have to act with Chapter so that an SLA works by himself and not through his assistant. AOA is to be immediately amended in this regard.

2.     All non-IIISLA members should be non-empanelled from the Insurer.

3.     All Regional Offices should verify the status of the Member through Chapter.

This way, we can wipe out, to some extent, favouritism of Insurers. And reasonable distribution of jobs to members based on factors needed can be helped. Myself is the worst sufferer in NE due to favouritism and corruption of appointing Insurer.

It is to inform that few members who do not bother about the Chartered status of the Institute, now a day, create chaos in Seminar organized by IIISLA. They do not need IIISLA as they have earned for 2/3 or more generations or they have different alternatives, and want that chartered status be not entrusted to IIISLA.

This is a new development and all right members are requested to be alert from such VIRUSES.

Dear Brothers
Due to this situations new incoming surveyors are inclining towards getting job in privet insurers as employee surveyor (so called in-house surveyor) because starting salary is being offered 25000 to 30000 pm and new surveyor may not get even 5000 to 8000 pm and then ITDAI will renew their licence without membership of IIISLA. Hence we all must think about incoming generation in our profession and their job security although which we are also not having.

Dear Friends,

Problem is not for motor surveyors, it is for all.

Even after 10 years of continuous working, we do not get empaneled with  underwriters though tried the best.

With my experience I believe, still 600 B.C. Nand Rule of Magadh persist in India. Learned & educated people are being thrown from office to office for bloody work or empanelment.  ...

Dear Shri Jha,

One needs sixth sense to gauge based on info gathered - who has done what.
A professional body is best gauged by their participation and involvement. Chatting, keeping fone   in on status etc during seminar is never expected from a person working as a professional. It is simply common sense. Seminar is not a get together, this can be done in non seminar time.
Pl see the web of SLA of UK. You can also have feed back from other professional body of India.

Thanks,.
