New IIISLA – Education is Key

For valuation purposes under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), I visited many parts of India. We observed that many industries are shutting down and not surviving due to their inability to adapt to technological changes. This phenomenon is happening everywhere. Many industries, services, and jobs are vanishing because of technological advancements.

Now, technology is posing a challenge to our profession. To overcome this, we must seek refuge in knowledge. IIISLA should work in this direction by implementing simple solutions as follows:

  • Physical Seminars: For physical seminars, we should adopt cost-effective measures. Spending large sums on big hotels and gifts for guests should be discontinued. Instead, IIISLA should lease campus areas in Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad and conduct courses there on a permanent basis at a basic cost. Rooms can also be hired at a lower cost.

  • Online Seminars: Online seminars, similar to those previously conducted by Sachin Mulge under the "Gyan Ganga" initiative, should be started on a monthly or bimonthly basis.

  • Cloud Storage: All seminars should be stored in the cloud so that members can access them whenever needed without any additional fees. We have gained valuable knowledge from seminars by Mr. M.S. Sainani of Jodhpur and Mr. P.C. Shukla of Kanpur, among other faculty members, but much of this data has been lost due to inadequate storage.

  • Digital Books: We have numerous books written by our surveyor colleagues, such as those by Mr. Sanjay Gupta from Chandigarh and Mr. Ramgopal Verma, along with books from III. These should be provided to surveyors in digital form free of charge.

  • CEP Points: A Continuous Education Program (CEP) is essential for upgrading skills. Each hour of education should be equivalent to one point. Therefore, surveyors must earn at least 10 points annually, and this should be provided free of charge.

  • External Faculty: For complex subjects, external subject experts should be invited to conduct special seminars.

  • Education for Agents: Our institute should focus on educating agents. Senior surveyors can serve as faculty members and train them based on their extensive experience and practical knowledge. This will enhance the brand value of IIISLA and provide an additional source of income.

The new IIISLA will work on these points to counter the impact of technology on our profession.

Dear Mr. Naresh Kumar Kukkar,

I appreciate your suggestions and ideas.  We expect implementation of such ideas which will promote the respect of the profession.

I am of the opinion that hiring of premises and maintaining them will be a costlier affair as of now.  We suugest to conduct such sessions in each at State or nearby UTs. through the local Chapters to save money and time spent on travel.  Earlier, Tamilnadu chapter had conducted lot of such seminars in all classes of Insurance and we lost such opportunities.

Further, I am of the opinion that Risk Inspections are the untapped area for the Surveyors in which our members are to be trained.  We have to convince the IRDA and Insurers on the importance of Risk Inspections by Surveyors before underwriting new business and continued inspecpection periodically.

National level seminars may also be arranged at higher level.  I believe knowledge only can elevate our pride.

Thankyou
