Insurance Surveyors – New Avenues
Over the last few days, I had discussions with many surveyors. Several Associate and Fellow surveyors have reported losing about 50% of their business, while Licentiate surveyors are struggling to establish themselves or even survive.
Some candidates are optimistic, suggesting that the Master Circular will lead to an abundance of claims. However, we know that the Master Circular applies only to claims above ₹50,000, which impacts just 20-30% of total claims. Although work on this has begun, it will take 3-4 years to be fully implemented. If we rely solely on this hope, what can be done in the meantime to support insurance surveyors?
I recently secured a contract from a pharmaceutical company for inspecting laboratories in around 30 cities across India. We distributed this work among 30 surveyor colleagues, providing them with substantial earnings, and the task was successfully completed. In another assignment involving valuation inspections in approximately 50 cities, my surveyor colleagues delivered excellent results.
One of our colleagues from Punjab initiated home inspection services for a bank and involved several other surveyors in this venture. Additionally, our mentors, Mr. A.S. Sodhi Ji from Jalandhar and Mr. Jagga Ji from Mumbai, have been instrumental in assisting many surveyor colleagues with investigations.
If someone like me—living just 10 kilometers from the Pakistan border in a small town—can generate work for many colleagues through networking, imagine the potential if this approach were institutionalized under a brand like IIISLA or a subsidiary company of IIISLA. This could open up numerous new opportunities for surveyors.
We need innovative thinking, a robust platform, and stronger networking within our community.
