If surveyors r not physically checking  the engine no. then they should write in report as engine no. mentioned from the rc book

Dear friends,
In commercial vehicles particulars in Tata vehicles engine no checking is difficult so not checked by many surveyors . Problem only comes when claim comes and engine found to be replaced and not having endorsement in RC . Share any experience like this

Dear Friends,

Chassis number is more important & which is normally physically checked & photographed. Most of the vehicle manufacturers are giving vehicle identification plate with Vehicle type chassis & engine number punched like Maruti,
Mahindra, General Motors, Ashok Leyland & previously Ford.  Surveyors match this punching with RC book/card & same is sufficient to mention in report with Physically verified. If one mentions it as taken from RC book then he will create another issue in report. We all know how claim is processed& dealt in office

Hundai & Toyota are giving stickers pasted with chassis & engine numbers.

In RTO also while registering the vehicle, chassis number is traced on paper by pencil & same is sufficient to record in their file & same is always checked during ownership transfer OR giving NOC during sale in other RTO or other State transfer.
Pls do not teach more to insurer as already nontechnical persons with Powers are on Post to deal with you. If you
have good relations, work will come to you inspite of all hurdles & we should think more on it without loosing our self respect.
 Comments are welcome.

With Regards to all

Dear Sir,

We are discussing for those vehicles where its not possible to note the serial no/s.

Kindly let me know in frontal damages how to note the engine no. for ex. of Tata 2515. In A/leyland buses how to note the punched chassis no.(as in some of the vehicles the storage box, etc are fixed where the chassis no. is punched), how to take the pencil print of chassis no. of a tipper which is carrying blank sand and the chassis is corroded, specially where the chassis no. is punched.

In such cases we have to write in our report that serial nos. noted from plate/rc, etc. and which in my opinion is not wrong.  Yes... atleast  one no. ie chassis or engine should be noted from the vehicle to identify it.

Sir,
If the engine is replaced by insured w/o knowledge of RTO the matter should be brought to the notice of the insurers as the damage to the engine cannot be covered in such case and if the owner is fleet owner a proper explanation be sought from insured by the insurers (where engine is not damaged) as it is one of the most important part of the vehicle identity.Surveyor can inform both the insurers & insured to take cognizance of the discrepancy in the identity of the vehicle.
- comments on above reasoning are welcome.

It is for the final surveyor to check the no. physically if spot surveyor declares inability to check it.Ashokleyland  chassis has seperate number plate on chassis & chassis no.is to be taken from that plate.I doubt a/leyland chassis has punched no.any where else on the chssis except onthe number plate which also desplays type & sr. no. of engine.Identity of vehicle isof paramount importance.Any description should be brought to the notice of insurers for action from their end.Surveyor cannot just wash his hands by saying his inability to verify.
