Type of accident:-. Vehicle owner was driving the car, on the way, car struck from under body side (Engine oil pan) with a sever main hole.
Inspection:-. When Engine oil pan opened for replacement, Repairer found the Strainer oil assy was in broken condition. Then Repairer replaced the Engine oil pan & a Strainer oil assy in the vehicle. After repairing Repairer had started the car & accelerate the engine, he heard a abnormal sound in Turbocharger of the vehicle.
TechnicalReason for Loss:-. Oil pan was pressed in the accident & due to it, Strainer oil assy of the oil pump had also got broken.
Oil starvation of the Turbo is very likely to have occurred before human intervention was possible mainly because-
1.The engine would have turned several hundred revolutions before actually being stopped & even more the Turbocharger would have turned several thousand revolution without oil.
2.Given the very limited size & capacity of holding oil in a turbocharger and also it's high location oil will move out fast but enter late due to gravity.
3.Turbocharger vehicle run at very high speeds. Vehicle's Oil chamber pan had struck with concrete material, got pressed, Resulting Strainer oil assy of oil pump got broken. Due to this, oil supply to Turbocharger has stopped.
So in case of inadequate oil to the Turbocharger bearing can quickly lead to overheating. This can result in loss of the bearing system of Turbocharger.
Precautions:-.. After an accident of this, We should not start on the engine. Vehicle should send to Workshop by towing crane.
SomeRelated Technical Details about Engine of Maruti Swift Car :-
The diesel variant of the car (Maruti Swift car) is powered by a 1.3 liter turbo diesel engine with DDiS (Direct Diesel Injection System) with a displacement of 1248 cc. The 1.3-liter DDiS engine comes equipped with theinter-cooler turbo charger for better efficiency and power output. The maximum power and maximum torque figures of the Swift Dzire diesel are 74bhp at 4000 rpm and 190 Nm at 1900 rpm, respectively. The new technology guarantees maximum fuelconsumption, engine performance and lesser emissions thereby increasing acceleration.
DDISEngine (Dual DigitalIgnitionSystem) :-
DDIS one of the derivatives of Fiat's multi jet diesel engine, DDIS diesel power plant is probably the most loved & acclaimed engines in the Indian car market today. Maruti Swift's revival to a great extent, has been all thanks to DDIS technology. Prior to DDIS diesel power plants available in Indian Car market were sluggish & clattery enough to wake up even your neighbors, they were quite expensive proposition to maintain also. Maruti Suzuki Swift with DDIS engine under its hood changed the Indian car buyers perception towards diesel power plant to a great extent.
Technical Details:-
DDIS technology consists of following three components:-
a. Common Rail Injection Mechanism.
b. Turbocharger.
c.Inter-cooler.
a. CommonRail Injection Mechanism ;- Fuel injection in Maruti Suzuki Swift DDIS is a 5step process with fuel being injected into the cylinder at around 1400 bar pressure. The CRDI arrangement features high pressure fuel rail which directly feeds the fuel to the solenoid valves.
b.Turbocharger:-Turbocharger is basically a mechanism to increase the available quantity of oxygen in combustion chamber thus enhancing engine performance.Since they are driven by exhaust gases, there is no extra load on the engine.
in comparison to a normal engine a turbocharger engine is more powerful & efficient. This is because the turbine of a Turbocharged engine forces more air & proportionately more fuel into the combustion chamber. A Turbocharger essentially comprises of a turbine & a compressor. They are connected by a common shaft this is supported on a bearing system.
Let's understand the functioning of the turbocharger. by compressing the air flowing into the diesel engine turbocharger allow engine to squeeze more air into a cylinder. More air in to the cylinder results into more fuel can be added into the engine. A turbocharger produces compressed air by turning waste energy from an engine exhaust gases. The Turbine generally rotates at a speed of around 1,50,000 RPM. As the engine burns fuel & air to produce mechanical power, so by the laws of combustion more air & fuel the engine can burn the more powerful it would be in way improving the overall efficiency of the combustion process.
c.Inter-Cooler:- Third essential part of DDIS technology is the inter cooler. inter-cooler helps the efficiency of the combustion process.
an inter cooler is used in a forced induction system to cool the compressed air in turbocharger for a denser inlet charger to enter the engine's cylinders thereby increasing the power output of an engine. Thus an Inter cooler reduces the temperature of compressed air in a turbocharger. Inter cooler air flowing into the combustion chamber of an engine has a denser charge than hot air. Therefore fuel/ air mixture with cooler air will produce a more powerful explosion in the engine's cylinders resulting in higher power output.
The Inter cooler cools the hot air/ water in its pipes in the same way as a radiator works.
